AudioZip - Manual
Written by ©Siegfried Dupick(Siggi), January 2022
This document may be freely distributed but not be modified
Updated: November 2024 to AudioZip v 1.2
Preface
AudioZip was born out of the need to
break out the chaos of a randomly grown collection of MP3 files, or
other formats
into an organized music collection.
Without the need for additional programs.
With a minimum of work, of course!
AudioZip contains a multitude of
self-developed tools combined in a single interface, which I have
optimized over the years
and are packed with unique features.
AudioZip
is no player software as there is no library maintained and other
expected player options (equalizer etc.) are not present.
However,
AudioZip can be used as such and will play 24 different file types.

What can that
thing do?
· AudioZip has been tested with Windows XP to Windows 10. Windows
11 shouldn't cause any problems either, but it hasn't been tested yet.
All windows fit monitors with a minimum resolution of 800 x
600 pixels.
· AudioZip can start by unzipping the containers, if any...
With 1 click, any number of 7zip-supported files is
unpacked, the respective target folder is correctly renamed using the
TAG information and all
unnecessary subfolder eliminated (All files in one folder).
· It can be renamed as often as you like (folder name easily
adjustable) or
be reverted to the original name if the TAG info is missing
or incomplete.
· The integrated player enables instant listening.
· Deleting unnecessary files can be done instantly as well as
inserting files (cover search e.g.).
· TAG information can be added, edited or deleted (including
images). Batch processing configurable.
AudioZip displays all TAG frames contained in the TAG,
including the so-called reverse domain frames in MP4 TAGs, which
may contain personal data and can therefore also be deleted.
Many (almost all... all but the player specific) complex ID3
frames can be easily edited.
· Support of synchronized lyrics in ID3v2 and WMA with configurable
LyricsViewer and own SyncMaster.
LRC files are also supported.
· AutoTagging via scripts for currently 8 websites (Startpage.com cover
search incl.). Anyone who knows can also create own scripts.
· Lyrics search via scripts for currently 4 websites.
· Own, intuitive ScriptEditor with layouts and its assistant.
· CD-Ripper with conversion to 8 different formats 'on-the-fly'.
Multi-CD-ripping.
· AudioConvert to convert to 8 different audio formats.
· CueSplitter for splitting audios with the well-known CueSheets.
· AudioCut to cut/split audios with available silence detection.
· View images, also in original size for evaluation... Animated GIF
files can be reproduced.
· Edit images: crop, max size, rotate, flip, convert... .webp
format is also supported.
Edit the image as a file and also directly in the TAG.
· Read and edit text files...
· Create playlists automatically.
· Create album info.
· Rename the music files using the TAG information with another
click (adjustable).
· Fast renaming of covers (e.g. front, back, inlet...). Adjustable.
· The menu for searching in Internet is also freely configurable.
· QuickEditor with many useful functions (text editor).
· Own HTML-Viewer for TAG-Specs and this manual with the F1 key.
· Own unlocker that detects locked files and offers solutions.
· AudioZip monitors your free disk space wherever new files are
created, configurable.
· A maximum of file information...
· Last but not least: The automated copying/moving of your albums
to their final destination in a configurable folder structure.
· Further details will become visible below.
· All screenshots are made in Windows XP... Nostalgia! Any
screenshots that may exceed the width of this manual
are limited to 500 pixels and can be opened separately by
clicking for a better view.
Description
1.
The main window
The main window is divided into 4 quadrants, which
are arranged logically in a clockwise direction.
Views after program start and in action
when unpacking with possible error messages and hints
Elements (containers, folders, files)
can be loaded into the main window using various methods.
· With the button in
the 1st quadrant, which opens an intuitive window for selection
· By dragging from
Windows Explorer to the 3 possible lists in the appropriate quadrants
· From the Explorer
context menu 'Open with AudioZip'
If you have already loaded elements and
you want to load new elements from a different source folder or
these new elements require a different
mode, you are noted to avoid the loss of unsaved work
Because AudioZip can work in different modes, these quadrants can have
different content and offer different options.
Certain options can also be disabled,
e.g. in AudioCD mode, where only data can be read, not written.
The different modes depend on what type
of element was opened. The mode is set automatically and shown at the
top in the window title,
also a small broom appears within the
corresponding list for containers, folders or files, which allows the
lists to be emptied.
· Extraction mode (when
containers have been opened for unpacking)
· Folder
mode (when folders have been opened)
· File mode
(when individual files have been opened,
only useful for testing them)
· AudioCD mode (For
ripping or listening to CDs)
When changing a mode you will be asked
if you really want to do it, so you don't lose any unsaved work.
There are 2
splitters
that allow you to change the size ratio between quadrants.
>> Starting with version 1.2, an
'About' window can be opened with the F2 key or through the system menu of this window.

1.1 Quadrant 1 (top left)
This quadrant is
the starting point for selecting/loading elements. Its aspect depends
on the mode.

extraction mode
1.1.1 The button to
open the
Configuration is located above the quadrant
in the window title.
1.1.2
Selection/Loading of containers, folders, files...
1.1.3 The main directory
is shown here, where the opened elements are located.
1.1.4 Opens the main directory in Windows Explorer.
1.1.5 This list contains elements depending on the mode:
Extraction mode: All opened containers (
7z,
zip, rar...)
Folder
mode: The original names of the
opened folders (To distinguish the current names in the list in
quadrant 2).
Multiple items are always selected in
this list, since the folder list in the 2nd quadrant does not allow
multiple selection.
Multiple selection is achieved by clicking and dragging the mouse or
using the CTRL/SHIFT keys and mouse click as usual.
Double click selects everything.
Both lists are always synchronized when scrolling.
A hint shows the full name + size and (unexistent) if deleted outside
of AudioZip.
1.1.6
Selection display, Selection/Total
The following components
only appear in extraction mode:
1.1.7
The unpacking of the selected containers is started here.
Any errors are shown in the folder list in quadrant 2.
It will not overwrite if a folder already exists, instead a number will
be appended and the
affected folders marked red in the 2nd quadrant.
1.1.8 Stop the
operation (click or press ENTER).
Any incomplete folders will be deleted.
1.1.9 Details of the loaded containers (Splitted containers
are shown separately here).

1.1.12 Opens the
Text
search
in the list or animation, when busy.
1.1.13 Deletes selected
containers to the recycle bin.
1.2 Quadrant 2 (top right)
This quadrant is
not active in File mode.
Contains the
folder list and all functions relative to folders.
1.2.1
The button to easily rename the selected folders according to the
information of the TAGs.
The selection must be made in the list of the 1st quadrant.
The operation can be interrupted since version 1.1 of AudioZip and a
message indicates its completion.
Renaming a large number of folders can take time as it is necessary to
read the TAGs of each file.
1.2.2 Here you can quickly configure the folder name and
the separator you want,
within the characters allowed by Windows in folder and file names.
1.2.3
Here you have the option to eliminate all subfolders in the selected
folders. That allows you to have all files directly
in each folder, in one level. WARNING: It would not be a good idea to
try this with a thick discography
or even with the 'My Documents' folder. Is it self-explanatory?
In any case, you will be asked to confirm this operation and you will
also receive information about the number of
subfolders and levels before anything goes wrong!
1.2.4 The folder list
When selecting a folder, the files it contains are shown in the file
list in the 3rd quadrant.
Multiple selections are not possible here. This must be done in the
list of the 1st quadrant.
Information can also be found here, e.g. after deleting a folder, using
the
Function
'JoinCDs'
or after unpacking containers. Information of this type is
distinguished by several spaces at the beginning.
If any function creates duplicate folder names, which AudioZip appends
a number to,
they will appear coloured red.
The manual edition of the name of a folder is allowed and also
terminated with the ENTER key, also by clicking again
on a selected folder and exit by clicking on another (as in Windows).
Right-clicking opens a menu that allows you to return one (or all)
folder(s) to their original name, if it was previously changed.
A hint shows the full name of the folder + size and (unexistent) if
deleted outside of AudioZip.
>>Version 1.2 also indicates the presence of possible subfolders
and how many levels they reside on for more information.
1.2.5 Number of folders in
list.
1.2.6 This area is
intended to display and locate duplicate folder names (which have been
numbered by AudioZip).
If you work in extraction mode, erroneous or canceled operations also
appear here.
The arrow component is used to quickly find the affected rows.
1.2.7 Access to the
Window 'Final step', the moving or copying of
your well-TAGged music to its final destination!
Before that, a menu opens for choosing between all or selected folders.
1.2.8
Activation of the
Function 'JoinCDs'. Combine multiple CD albums
easily by dragging in the folder list!
1.2.9 Opens the
Window to
compress folders (7z or zip).

separator you want,
within the characters allowed by Windows in folder and file names.
1.3.3 Number of files in list.
1.3.4 Total playing time of all audio files (Visible when
selecting an audio file).
1.3.5 This button appears if the selected audio file
contains synchronized lyrics (TAGs ID3v2 and WMA) or a
LRC file with the same name exists.
Clicking opens a list of all available lyrics to choose from.
1.3.6 Start/Pause and Stop buttons.
1.3.7 Volume.
1.3.8 Access to the 3 audio tools (
AudioConvert,
AudioCut,
CueSplitter). AudioCut
and CueSplitter are only active when
an audio file is selected.

29. Supported formats.
This quadrant is used to display file information, image view, text
reading, TAG information and to edit them.
Since a lot of
information can be seen here, it was decided to use 5 tabs.
· File info
· ID3v1 TAG
· ID3v2 TAG
· Other TAGs
· Pictures
1.4.1 File info
The File Info tab has different aspects depending on the selected file
type. In any case, the file extension
and the size of the file is displayed.
For audio files
· Playing time in minutes/seconds/milliseconds.
· Bitrate in kbit/s + Display of variable or constant bitrate when
available.
· Display of included TAGs, green dot. Red dot if this TAG type was not
expected.
Unexpected TAG types can be deleted here.
· More technical details like SampleFreq, Channel...
Compression is understood as 'compressed to' in relation to the size on
CD.
AudioZip tests the suitability of the audio files. If something is
wrong, the file extension will appear in red with a
relevant comment. In such cases, the File Info tab is always shown.
If the file was recognized as audio, but the file extension does not
match, file extensions are
suggested and can be corrected directly.
Audios recognized as such can always be played, but
their TAGs cannot be edited if something is wrong.
Deleting unexpected TAGs can help.
For
picture files
· Width in pixels
· Height in pixels
· Bits/pix
· The picture
Click on the picture or press ENTER to show the picture in its original
size (pixel true) to assess its quality in a new window.
Right click to open in
ImageEditor.
· A start/stop button appears for animated GIF files.
AudioZip tests the suitability of the image files. If
something is wrong, the file extension will appear in red with a
relevant comment. In such cases, the File Info tab is always shown.
If the file was recognized as an image, but the file extension does not
match, file extensions are
suggested and can be corrected directly.
For text files
· Text frame for reading and editing
· Save button
For .url and .lnk files
· Display of the included path
1.4.2 ID3v1 TAG
The ID3v1 TAG tab contains the 7 standard frames of an ID3v1 TAG (v1.0
or v1.1) with its limitations.
A ComboBox with the default genres.
AudioZip allows
automatic formatting of some TAG
frames.
1.4.2.1 Display of TAG version
1.4.2.2 Opens the HTML-Viewer with the corresponding
TAG-Spec
1.4.2.3 Apply changes to the file. See also
Sync 1,
Sync 2,
Batch
1.4.2.4 Delete the TAG from the file.
1.4.2.5 Restore original TAG
1.4.3 ID3v2 TAG
The ID3v2 TAG tab is of course much more complex than the previous one
and needs more explanations.
General
AudioZip allows
automatic formatting
of some TAG frames.
All currently known versions are supported (v2.2, v2.3 and v2.4).
All included TAG frames are always listed below. A certain order is
guaranteed.
The most important frames first, then the more complex ones, the images
are always at the end of the list.
The 9 most important text frames (from artist to comment) have their
own place, the star rating too.
The content of all other frames will be visible in the 'Other frames'
box after selection in the list.
The green marking of the text boxes and those in the list are always in
pairs for better orientation.
That means: A click in the box for the artist automatically selects the
corresponding frame below in the list and vice versa.
In case that the artist does not yet have any data and is therefore not
yet in the list, the marking takes place when text is entered.
Clicking on an image frame in the list shows the tab
1.4.5
Pictures.
All frames that allow more than one line of text get a box with
additional information at the right end.
The Comment box shows the number of lines of text in that additional
box. Other complex frames can contain the following information:
· M = Frame with multiple text values
· B = Frame with pure binary data (No text)
· BT = Frame with binary data and text
· H = Frame with help (Assistant), the TAG expects
predefined values here
To view and edit the full content of these complex frames, double-click
the 'Comment' box or
'Other frames' to open the window
'Special TAG frames'.
Some frames can only be edited in this window.
When double-clicking on 'Other fields' with content of synchronized
lyrics,
SyncMaster will be opened.
AudioZip shows a lot of power here!
Binary data can be studied here in 4 different formats (Text, Binary,
Hexadecimal, Decimal), for insiders!

Batch.
1.4.3.13 The 'More' button opens a window with an alternative to batch
processing with the 'Batch' button.
This window allows editing of the basic frames also for files with
different TAG types in
a folder. Lots of special features like filling in TAG frames from
folder or file names, word swapping,
formats etc. More about that in
'Window Advanced
TAG editing'.
1.4.4 Other TAGs
This tab manages all non-ID3 TAGs. The following TAG types may appear
here:
APE, FLAC, MP4, OGG, WMA and CD-Info
The handling and functions are identical to the
tab 1.4.3 ID3v2 TAG, though specific to
other TAGs and are therefore not repeated here.
AudioZip allows
automatic formatting
of some TAG frames.
1.4.5 Pictures
This tab shows the pictures of all supported TAG types and allows their
editing, except
of the OGG format, which does not allow pictures.
The MP4 TAGs do not provide for either the picture type or the picture
description.
Image files can be inserted from the file list or Windows Explorer by
dragging them with the mouse, or from the clipboard.
1.4.5.1 The picture type to select. This list is always
filled out directly by the respective specs
and can therefore vary slightly depending on the TAG type.
Please don't ask me about the 'colored fish' or 'bright coloured
fish'... I've googled it myself!
Specs are specs...

1.4.6 Sync 1
This switch, when activated, synchronizes the
ID3v1 TAG with the ID3v2 TAG.
This means that everything you write into the ID3v2 TAG also appears in
the ID3v1 TAG or is written into it
when applied with Sync1 enabled. Of course only the possible ID3v1
frames.
Attention: The settings in the configuration for the
Handling
of D3v1 always have priority!
1.4.7 Sync 2
This switch, when activated, synchronizes the ID3v2 TAG with the ID3v1
TAG.
This means that everything you write into the ID3v1 TAG also appears in
the ID3v2 TAG or is written into it
when applied with Sync2 enabled. Of course only the possible ID3v1
frames.
1.4.8 Batch
This switch enables TAG processing of multiple files (called Batch)
before application.
Batch processing is only applied to files with the same TAG type as
many frames are incompatible.
However, batch processing for all TAG types can be performed using the
'More' button though
only for the basic frames.
However, Batch works for all TAG types when deleting or restoring whole
TAGs.
Batch is configurable. For example, in the default setting, the year
frame is written the same in all files, what
is normal for most albums. But what about the samplers? Each song can
be from a different year...
Each TAG frame is thus configurable, there is also a Clean function
with exceptions, which allows to quickly
eliminate unnecessary TAG frames throughout the album.
The configuration window opens when you right-click on the Batch switch.

The configuration window contains some important setting options and
can be opened via the gears
in the title bar of the main window.
The menu is on the left of the window.
When applying the changes, they are
saved directly in a Data.txt file so that nothing is lost in the event
of any
power failures... Please do not change
this file manually!
Please note that if the language is
changed, this window will also be translated, but if not applied, the
translation will be reset again

The following areas are configurable:
2.1 General
2.1.1 Language setting
Since version 1.1, 5 languages are available: Spanish, German, English,
French and Italian.
Everything to be
translated has been done by myself with a lot of care, hints and
messages as well,
no restart is
necessary.
There are exceptions for space reasons in the main window with
configuring the folder and file names and
with some technical descriptions, which sometimes become very long when
translated...
AudioZip should still fit into old monitors (min. 800x600).
Since version 1.1, the language files (extension .lan) are checked for
the number of lines.
If the number is not equal to the expected one, a message appears with
information and English is loaded.
This should avoid any translation chaos and guarantee the functionality
of AudioZip.
The correct files can be obtained from the AudioZip download page.
Furthermore, since version 1.1 it is theoretically possible for each
individual to write their own translations.
AudioZip now also detects new language files automatically!
Caution: There are a few things to consider!
Read the article
32. if you are interested, or ask for new translations on
my
contact page.
2.1.2 Sounds
emitted by AudioZip can be turned off here. 'Other sounds' only appear
when opening QuickEdtor, nostalgia...
2.2 TAG settings
2.2.1 Formats in
TAGs (Auto-Format)
AudioZip can automatically format various TAG frames when applied to
file, as described in the window.
Please note: The 'Word uppercase' function cannot, of course,
distinguish Roman numerals from words. So that not
MIX becomes Mix or VI becomes Vi (wine in Catalan), there is an option
in the window
'Advanced TAG editing',
to individually switch off the 3 selected formats once.
2.2.2 Handling of ID3v1
Here you can choose how you want the ID3v1 TAGs to be handled when
saving to file.
For audio type extensions mp1, mp2, mp3, aac, aiff, and aif.
Although the ID3v1 TAGs are quite outdated and limited, they are still
desired for older audio players.
2.2.2.1 If you select this option, the ID3v1 TAGs are always written
and synchronized with the ID3v2 TAG,
both in the
Main window and in the window
'Advanced TAG editing' and during
AutoTagging.
Recommended if you want ID3v1 TAGs.
This option always takes precedence and ignores the
Switch
Sync1.
2.2.2.2 If you select this option, you are responsible... You will then
have to sync the
both TAG types yourself with the
Switch Sync1
before applying in the
Main window.
If you forget to do this, there may be different information in the two
TAG types. CAUTION!
The same for applying in windows
'Advanced
TAG editing' and
AutoTagging.
2.2.2.3 Recommended if you don't
want ID3v1 TAGs. If selected, ID3v1 TAGs are never written
and existing ones deleted.
This option always takes precedence and ignores the
Switch
Sync1.
2.3 Pictures
Here the
right-click menu of the file list in the main window can be freely
designed for renaming the picture names.
The list understands
one menu option per line. Since these are file names, the characters
here are limited by Windows.
2.4 Minimum free space
Wherever files
are generated, AudioZip monitors your free disk space and notifies or
even blocks
operations if it could be undercut. Set it according to your needs,
the minimum is
20MB. See also
26. Free disk space monitoring.
2.5 CD-Ripper
The
CD-Ripper
offers the possibility to start AutoTagging automatically when a CD is
finished.
Select your
preferred WEB page here. This list always updates automatically
according to the available scripts.
2.6 Synchronized lyrics
2.6.1 If you
check this box, AudioZip will automatically show synced lyrics in a
special window (
LyricsViewer)
when playing. Synchronized lyrics can be present in ID3v2 and WMA TAGs,
as well as LRC file (v1)
in the album folder.
I worked particularly hard with the LyricsViewer in order to achieve
the most pleasant possible presentation.
Therefore, the configuration of this window is also somewhat extensive
and needs more detailed explanation.
2.6.2
Configuration LyricsViewer
It works with so-called profiles, text files that allow various
personal settings and can be called/selected in
LyricsViewer.
You can create new profiles by selecting any, editing and saving as a
new profile.
Selected profiles can be edited and saved by applying, all profiles
except AudioZipDefault can also be deleted.
5 different components can be personalized and selected in the upper
part of the panel.

2.6.2.5.5 Delete a selected profile from disk. AudioZipDefault cannot
be deleted.
2.7 Search in Internet ...
Here you can
personalize part of the 'Search in Internet ...' menu in the main
window. Experience has shown that e.g. a Google search
may vary
depending on the country. I achieve the best international artist or
album searches in Google.en or Google.de, for example.
Wikipedia in English is not the same
as Wikipedia in Spanish version.
Depending on
your music orientation, you may know of specific web sites that will
give you optimal results.
You can
therefore freely specify the search pages and use them directly in the
menu.
The 5 different
menu options are as follows:
Google Cover
Google lyrics
Non-synchronized lyrics
Search LRC in
LRC files for synchronized lyrics
Search album in
Search artist in
The 5 different
windows are structured in the same way, with the exception of 'Search
LRC in', which offers the possibility to search by artist or
title or both. Configure according
to your own experience, search success depends on the selected web.
AudioZip comes
with preconfigured samples.
Only the 'Search
LRC in' window is shown here for explanation.
2.7.1 Example Search LRC in
2.7.1.1 Display name
Enter here the name of the menu option that you would like to see in
the menu.
2.7.1.2 URL
A hint always shows you an example. The 'itemtosearch' variable is a
placeholder in the URL for the text information that AudioZip gets
by reading the TAG of the corresponding audio file. It is important
that this variable is written in the right place (see examples).
For a recommendation, simply start a search in your Internet browser in
the desired web with e.g. 'Rolling Stones'.
After the search is complete, the URL has changed to include 'Rolling
Stones' in a specific location.
e.g. https://vvlyrics.com/search?q=Rolling+Stones (The search term is
not always at the end!).
Copy this URL from your browser and fill the URL field with this URL.
Finally, replace 'Rolling+Stones' with 'itemtosearch' as shown here:
https://vvlyrics.com/search?q=itemtosearch
Finished!
2.7.1.3 Visible only for LRC search, no setting required for other menu
options.
2.7.1.4 The list of all webs for this menu option in the order they
should appear in the menu.
This order can be changed by dragging with the mouse.
When selecting a web from this list, the information is shown in the
first 2 fields above and can be edited.
2.7.1.5 Button to apply changes to the list.
2.7.1.6 Creates a new row in the list (New menu option).
2.7.1.7 Delete the selected row of the list.
Don't forget to apply after changes!
3.
Window Select
The selection window is a specially
adapted version comparable to the Windows Explorer for loading elements
(containers, folders or files) in
AudioZip. It contains 2 lists similar to Windows Explorer and a refresh
button.
3.1 Refresh button
3.2 The Windows folder structure
3.3 The explorer
Further down, under each list, there
are 3 more buttons for loading the elements, which make the work a bit
easier. How?
When you select a folder in the left
list, you immediately see below the number of containers, subfolders
and files that
the selected folder contains. To load
all the containers, just click the right button... et voilá!
Would you prefer all subfolders or
files, no problem!
The list on the right is used for
individual selection. For example, if you selected folders and files,
which AudioZip doesn't allow, you'll see it
also immediately below the list and only
have to click on the right button.
Multiple selection is achieved using the
CTRL/SHIFT keys and mouse click as usual. The selection appears in the
list below.

3.11 Add/load all selected files and
their number
When loading folders and files, the
original TAGs of the audio files of the first folder are backed up,
what can slow down the process
a little. A notice will appear in the
center of the window while AudioZip is busy.
Since AudioZip can only load elements from the same source folder and
type (container or folder or file), you will get
alerted if you've already loaded
something and the new elements don't meet these conditions, so you
don't loose unsaved work.
If you want to proceed, all lists of the
main window are emptied beforehand.
The same applies to loading by mouse
dragging and from the Windows Explorer context menu.
4.
Window Text search in lists
This window allows text searching in
both the
Container list
and the
Folder list in the main window.
Useful when they contain many items.
It opens under the respective list by
clicking on one of the buttons with the magnifying glass.

format. The containers will be created in the same root folder
where the folders are located and given
the same name.
If a container with the same name
already exists, a number is appended. No message is given to
not interrupt possibly long processes.

Containers can be split in a freely
configurable way and also given a password. These settings apply to
every
selected folder.

Window QuickEditor
QuickEditor is a specially developed text editor tailored for AudioZip,
with many useful functions accessible from
1st and 2nd quadrants in the main window
for folder or file renaming, whenever the existing renaming functions
don't get you any further (Or as an
alternative). Also accessible from the 'Advanced TAG Editing' window.
A classic example would be:
You want the attribute 'Special' or
'Live Edition' appended in the TAG, but not in the folder or file names.
QuickEditor quickly erases them... Or
vice versa?... Or numbers your folder names...
Of course, you can also use it for other
purposes, but it is firmly anchored in the program.
>>Version 1.2 offers a new
feature: 'Selection to uppercase'. Useful for quick correction of Roman
Numerals.

Window Special TAG frames
Here the content of multi-line text frames, complex TAG frames with
more than just text information or binary data
and frames with standardized information
is shown and edited.
This window therefore has different
aspects tailored to these specific TAG frames and TAG types.
It opens after double-clicking on the
'Comment' or 'Other frames' boxes in the tabs
'ID3v2
TAG' or
'Other TAGs'.

visible
7.3.4 Allows viewing of TAG-Specs
7.3.5 Button to apply changes to the TAG
7.4 Example GEOB ID3v2
(Encapsulated Object)
This TAG frame is one of the most complex frames provided by the ID3v2
spec. It contains both text information and
binary data that can represent any file, even music within music... for
those who need it!
It
was a big challenge for me to find a way to make this data visible. I'm
sure there are other people too
who
are interested in what's inside... AudioZip has the solution!
For
analyzing, I offer 4 display modes (As text, binary, hexadecimal and
decimal). Have fun!
If
the object is an image file, the image is also displayed.
Since thick files can also be present here (shouldn't be the case...),
before opening the window, it is pointed out that the
operation can take time and it can be aborted.
Audiozip version 1.1 introduces some improvements to save time when
dealing with large files:
· If you have interrupted the data loading before, you can later resume
it from the point of interruption to
complete it. Sometimes you want to see only the beginning of the data
and there is no need to wait until the end.
If you decide to see everything, just click the tab in question again.
· The 4 display modes are now saved separately. This makes it easy to
quickly switch between views
already loaded.
7.4.1 Description of the file (Must be unique if there are
multiple GEOB frames)
7.4.2 Name of included file
7.4.3 MIME type (Non-editable)
7.4.4 Load other file
7.4.5 Save the included file to the album folder
7.4.6 Appears only in the case of an image file, clicking

Window New TAG frame
This window opens after clicking on the
buttons for adding tag frames in the tabs
'ID3v2 TAG'
or
'Other TAGs'
or
'Pictures'. It has
different aspects tailored to the different TAG frames and TAG types.
20 different aspects are possible, 5 of
them are shown and described here. In all variants, the OK button is
used for
applying changes to the TAG and the file.
For adding synchronized lyrics the
window '
SyncMaster' opens when klicking 'OK'.
In all variants, you see on the top the list of available TAG frames
according to TAG types. Frames already contained in the TAG
and not permitted more than once, no
longer appear here.

8.1 Example Bool (Yes/No frames)
These frames only allow 2 values: Yes=1, No=0. In order to avoid
incorrect entries, they are specially supported.
A value of 0=No has the same value for the players as a nonexistent
frame. Therefore a bool frame with the value 0
not allowed by AudioZip.

This window also appears when
dragging pictures onto the TAG, but without the option to select a
picture.
AudioZip allows 4 picture formats in TAGs (JPEG, BITMAP, PNG and static
GIF).
All
TAG types (OGG does not allow pictures) allow multiple pictures in one
TAG with certain conditions.
ID3v2: The picture description must be unique
WMA: Picture description or picture type must be unique
APE: The picture type must be unique (therefore a maximum
of 21 pictures)
FLAC: No restriction
MP4: No restriction, without picture type and description

9.
Window Advanced TAG editing
This window opens after clicking on one
of the 'More' buttons in the tabs
'ID3v2
TAG' or
'Other TAGs'.
It is intended as an alternative to
batch editing with the 'Batch' button.
This window allows the 9 basic frames to
be edited, even for files with different TAG types in a folder.
In the center is the list with the audio
files contained in the folder, their TAG type and the information
received
from the 9 basic frames. Above each
column of basic frames is a panel with lots of interesting functions
for each frame.
Manual editing is done in the 'New
Value' input field in each panel and is applied to the items selected
below.
The information of the previous TAGs can
be restored column by column and also globally.

9.4 List of audio files,
TAG type and the columns for 9 TAG frames
Multiple items can be selected here in a column by mouse dragging. This
causes focus when the mouse is released
in the corresponding input field 'New value', which receives the value
of the item of the first selection. The ENTER key would
pass that value directly to the selection and return focus to the list.
If the list already has focus, multiple items can be selected using the
SHIFT+UP/DOWN arrow keys.
The first selection is then transferred to the 'New value' input field
with the ENTER key.
Once used to it, hopefully you will find it a relief...
The 'Comment' column shows a box on the right for each line with the
number of lines in the comment as well as in the
tabs
'ID3v2

edit the full information. To have the same complete
information in all lines, select all comments
and double-click any box.
Editing comments in the input field only results in single-line
comments, please note!
9.5 Restore previous TAG

9.6 Input fields for each
column
Changes here are applied to the items selected below. Setting
the focus in one of these fields chooses
all items if none were previously selected. ENTER key transfers the
value to the selection.
9.7 Swaps words (A B > B,
A) for those who would pefer to see 'Dylan, Bob'. If more than 2 words
are recognized,
a small
help window opens, where words can be
quickly exchanged in pairs.
Since version 1.1 of AudioZip you can group multple words to convert
easy 'John Lee Hooker' to 'Hooker, John Lee' for example.
The application is made to the selection.
9.8 To fill in the selected items with information from the
original name of the folder.
A small

Since version 1.1 of AudioZip it is possible to group words:
For example, to get the result 'Hooker, John Lee', group the words
'John' and 'Lee' and click on the button to the right of 'Lee'... Easy!
Grouping/separating is achieved by pressing CTRL+click on the button
between 2 words or by pressing CTRL+ENTER
when the button has focus.
There may be several words grouped together.
The respective
button gets a red chain symbol and both adjacent words are highlighted
in light red.
This
identification is retained after the exchange of words and can thus be
easily reversed.
Should be of useful help!

which is built in throughout
AudioZip.
>>Version 1.2 now allows you
to copy selected text and select all text with a right mouse click.

Window ImageEditor
This window opens via the right-click
menus of
TAG pictures,
File Info
or the
File list in the 3rd quadrant of the main
window.
Probably contains all the functions that
a music collector needs...
A picture can be brought here to a
maximum size (in pixels), converted into 5 different picture formats
(also .webp), rotated
or flipped (mirrored) and of course
cutouts (crops) can also be made.
The crop can be examined immediately on
the right in the window, also in its original size. The crops are
always based on the original size,
regardless of the visible size.
The cropping always takes place in
full-screen mode for better manipulation, the setting for the maximum
size then refers to the section.
Although AudioZip can display a very
large number of picture formats, not all of them can be edited in the
same format. These formats will
automatically converted to JPEG when
edited (this will be displayed of course).
Error messages may appear in red when
something fails. For example, the maximum size for icons (.ico) is
limited to 200 pixels.
Changes can be overwritten or saved as a
new picture.

Window AudioConvert
This window opens via the button
'Audio tools' in the 3rd quadrant of the main window
and contains all audio files
of the selected folder.
There are 7 conversion formats available (.wav,
.mp3, .wma, .ogg, .flac, .wv, .ape).
For newcomers, it should be mentioned
again that converting between lossy formats always generates more loss
from a technical point of view,
although not audible to everyone.
Converting lossy formats to lossless only produces thicker files
and therefore makes no sense.
Would like to mention here that I've spent a
ton of time figuring out the well-known TAG field chaos created by
missing
or unclear norms (a round of applause to
ID3.org) to enlighten something...
I can proudly say that AudioZip's
internal TAG mapping list is more complete than any on the web.
Many absurd TAG field names (even from
reputable software developers) are recognized, though never all.
For example: 'COPYRIGHT/LEGAL
INFROMATION' yes, even with a spelling mistake! Comes from ...
Some obsolete TAG frames like 'Time' are
ignored because no player needs them today.
In some TAG types, some TAG frames can
appear more than once, in others only once (e.g. POPM in ID3v2 is
allowed multiple times).
The universal, multiple possible frame
TXXX in the ID3v2 TAG is used to record text information from other
TAGs that have no compatible ID3v2
frame, unfortunately the designated
field WM/TEXT is only possible once in the WMA-TAG. AudioZip makes an
exception here and writes
WM/TEXT1, 2 etc. WM/USERWEBURL
corresponds to the WXXX frame in the ID3v2 TAG and is allowed multiple
times! The specs...
At the bottom of the window you have the
possibility to display an info about the TAG treatment at the end of
the conversion.

This window opens via the button

when an audio file is selected.
The kick for integrating an audio cutter into AudioZip was the moment I
first ripped a CD,
which after a long break contained a
hidden extra piece at the end. The break had to go...
The development continued and so today
you can also split albums ripped in a single file into several song
files thanks to the
configurable silence/track detection.
The lower part of the window is as in
AudioConvert, with the option to convert, progress

Working with a maximized window is

CueSheets are special text files created by some CD rippers and contain
both text information about the album and timestamps
for the beginning and end of each track
included in the album. They are subject to a specific standard that
AudioZip reviews and demonstrates their suitability.
When opened, it looks for a valid
CueSheet both in the TAG and in the album folder for a .cue file that
must have the same name as the audio
file.
If no CueSheet is found, no operation
can be performed, but you can change directly on top right to

The CD-Ripper first carries out some
preparatory work:
1. Opens

2.
Searches for CD-Text (takes precedence if found)
3. Creates

4.
Searches information on the Internet through script for MusicBrainz.com
5. Reads

Before the CD ripper opens, a small
display window appears with information about the individual steps.
If the search for track info is
successful, it will be visible directly in the track list and a name
will be given to the album folder.
If you just want to listen to the CD,
you can close the CD ripper and have the track info visible in
the

specially programmed for the 9 different websites,
that come with AudioZip.

Because the code of the webs can change from time to time, it is
sometimes necessary to update the scripts.
I'll try to make sure, however, anyone
with knowledge can modify a script using the built-in intuitive
ScriptEditor or even program
new ones (Pascal).
The Auto-Tagger first takes the folder name as the
search topic, but artist and/or album names from the TAGs can also be
used
or you enter manually.
The search starts immediately with the
selected script and offers the possible results in a list with
additional information if
accessible. After selecting a result,
the album information is loaded and overlaid in another window.
The Google search causes the found
images to be displayed directly.
The TAGs allow 4 picture formats
(JPEG, BITMAP, PNG and static GIF). Since in recent years the format
WEBP is becoming more common
to be found on the Internet, pictures in
this format are automatically converted to JPEG for the best search
results.
For example, the web Rateyourmusic only
offers pictures in WEBP format, although with the extension .jpg.
A conversion is indicated in the hint
for each image.

I would like to mention here that my
first contact with the fascinating world of programming was when trying
to manipulate scripts
which uses the highly recommended
ANT
MovieCatalog, to obtain information for movies.
I hardly understood what the code of the scripts was doing, but after a
lot of trial and error I got the first results...
So every interested newcomer is
encouraged to make his experiences here, a backup of the scripts is of
course recommended!
The language used in the scripts is
PASCAL.
This ScriptEditor is tailor-made for AudioZip and thus tied to special
functions that are described in detail (English) in the layouts for
new scripts, but also new functions can be defined
in the scripts.
Have put a lot of care into making the
editor as user-friendly as possible. So the source code lists are in
RichText format, allowing
active links and color, the 5 panels to
be resized with
Splitters
etc.
There is also a very useful assistant that can not only contain notes
about the script, but also show the content of text variables
with color differentiation (function
inspectvar).
The content of this assistant can be
saved as .txt or .rtf and imported again.
When switching to another script and
when closing the window, you will be asked whether you want to save
possible changes made
in the assistant as well in the script.
AudioZip version 1.2 offers a new variable 'newlinkneeded' and a new function 'inspectfirst'.
Both facilitate the reloading of a modified link before analyzing the final page.

19.11 The assistant
The assistant can be used as a note pad for a script and/or show the
content of text variables and is therefore
a great help when analyzing a source code with the important function
'TextBetween'.
In order for the assistant to display the content of a text variable,
you only have to insert the 'inspectvar' function with the variable
into the script
at the appropriate place. Example for a variable 'item1':
Version 1:
inspectvar(item1)
Version 2:
inspectvar(item1, 'item1') //shows also the name of the variable
Run the script and open the wizard... The beginning and end of each
output are marked in red
It must be ensured that the content of the assistant (loops!) does not
grow unnecessarily, otherwise things will become too sluggish...

Window SyncMaster
This window opens from the
Window
New TAG frame, the tabs
1.4.3 ID3v2 and
1.4.4 Other TAGs or from
the right-click menu of the
File list in the 3rd quadrant in the main window.
Since creating synced lyrics is clearly a matter of patience, I have
programmed this editor with lots and lots of patience as well
to make the job as easy as possible. The
interface may be a little frightening, but I assure you
that the learning time is not very long
and you learn to appreciate the many possibilities and supports...
The SyncMaster supports synchronized
lyrics in ID3v2 TAGs and WMA TAGs as well as LRC files (v1).
LRC files can be imported and exported
as TAG frames and vice versa.
It is important for LRCs that they
always have the same name as the audio file and are located in the same
folder.
The individual components are described
first, followed by a
Suggestion to create
synchronized lyrics.

20.4 The unit of time stamps
AudioZip always works internally with milliseconds as the unit. If you
load synchronized lyrics with MPEG frames as unit,
they will be converted to milliseconds based on the sample rate of the
audio and a message will appear.
If the TAG frame was created with this sample rate, the time stamps
will be correct. If not, you can try options
by clicking on the lightbulb that appears at the top right.

20.10.1.2 Input frame for other desired information, which must meet
the following standard:

20.12 Undo the last import
20.13 The line list
with number and time stamp, each line can be edited
Clicking on a line when playing in test mode sets the player position
to the value of the time stamp.
A blank line after a line of text can be used to determine the end of
the previous one, resulting in deselecting that line
in the LyricsViewer.
If you right-click on a line, a menu with 6 different actions appears
in the lower part:
Split line with new time stamp (From cursor position)
Add new line (At the end)
New line at the beginning
New line below this one
Remove this line
Undo last action
Splitting lines
Splitting lines allows marking sequences of lines in the LyricsViewer
(not marking the whole line).
When splitting via the right-click menu, the new line gets a time stamp
and the indicator '_' (underscore) at the beginning,
which tells the LyricsViewer that this line and the one above it are to
be presented as one line.
A space can also be used as an indicator.
Example:
The slowly sung sequence 'I love you' divided into 3 lines in the
SyncMaster appears as 1 line in the LyricsViewer
with 3 consecutive highlightings. Deleting the 2 indicators would
result in the 3 words appearing on 3 lines.
20.14 Adjustment of the time stamp of a
selected row in steps of 1 minute/1 second/100 milliseconds.
When playing in test mode, each change causes the player position to be
set to the new value.
If you work in test mode, this adjustment is monitored (recommended).
No stamp may be smaller than the preceding or
be larger than the following. Otherwise you will not be able to save
your work. The edition mode allows a free
processing of the time stamps.
20.15 Applying of an Offset to all time
stamps (Allows negative values to shrink).
When playing in test mode, each change causes the player position to be
set to the new value.
Is almost always needed after setting the time stamps when listening.
Can be applied and reset any number of times.
20.16 3 different modes to choose from,
which do the following:
Edition mode
Get time stamps while playing by spacebar (SPACE) + free
editing of the time stamps
Test mode

20.23 Suggestion to create
synchronized lyrics
It is recommendable to have a static song text beforehand, copied to
the clipboard or in the TAG and
to know the song well. A quiet piece is best for practice.
1. Open the SyncMaster via the
Window New TAG frame,
it appears empty.
2. If your lyrics are on the clipboard, use button
20.6,
otherwise
20.8 to paste the lyrics
into the list with the time stamps set to 0. The first line must be
selected and the edition mode too.
3. Now the audio needs to be played. Finger on the spacebar (SPACE)
please...
When you hear vocals, press SPACE as quickly as possible. The first
time stamp is set and the following
line marked, pay attention and press again at the beginning of the next
singing sequence...
Step by step until the end of the song.
4. You now have your time stamps. We switch to test mode to check the
first result.
Play the audio again and you'll see each line highlighted in green
according to the time stamps.
It is normal that this happens with a slight delay at first because of
our reaction time to the pressure on the
Spacebar (SPACE). In my experience, it's about 200-300 milliseconds.
5. Try applying an offset of e.g. -300 and play again...
6. If the offset is too different for many lines, it may be better to
repeat the process, otherwise perhaps
you may correct individual timestamps more quickly.
7. If we like the result, we switch to presentation mode and enjoy our
work!
Don't forget to save!
My first attempt took almost half an hour, but with practice I managed
it in around 10 minutes! Have fun!

Window AudioZip Unlocker
The specially developed AudioZip Unlocker comes into action anywhere in
the program when files need to be accessed,
which may be blocked by another program.
(Reading/writing TAGs, renaming...etc.).
If any file is locked that AudioZip
needs to access, you will first get a message window offering you
to try again or open Unlocker.
You decide whether you want to unlock
the file, kill the corresponding process or close the responsible
program yourself.

Window Final step
This window opens via button 1.2.7 of
the
2nd
Quadrant in the main window.
It automates the moving or copying of your well-TAGged music to its
final destination, a configurable folder structure
in a directory of your choice.
Alphabetic subfolders can be created automatically, which can contain
folders for each
artist, which in turn contain the album
folder with the files. Special subfolders can be named.
Everything adjustable.
In order for this to work, it must of
course be ensured that the TAGs contain all the necessary information
correctly.
Therefore the name 'Final Step'!
After configuring your folder
structure (which you can save), an analysis is always necessary first,
which after completion
displays the artist names and
destination paths in the list and any references to e.g. subfolders in
the album folder or 'NO ARTIST' (marked red)
in the 'Analysis' column, for your
control.
At the end, an information window also
appears if something unsatisfactory was found.
The analysis takes its time because the
TAG of each file is read.
If you change the folder structure after
an analysis, a new analysis is necessary because the target paths are
no longer valid.
You will be notified in this case before
you start moving/copying.
If you are satisfied with the result,
you can start moving or copying the album folders.
Individual album folders can be selected
or deselected.
Notes appear in the 'Result' column
about the success of an operation.
If a folder already exists at the target
location, you will be asked if you want to empty the target folder
first so that only the new content appears there.
Otherwise, files with the same name will
be overwritten and others will remain.
This is important if the old folder
contains e.g. extra files that are not contained in the new folder. If
in doubt, you can skip this folder.
Since version 1.1 of AudioZip this window got some new improvements.
· If a folder already exists at the target
location, more information of source and target folder is offered:
· Number of files in each folder
· File types and their number
· Total size of each folder
This will make your decision easier!
· A button 'Skip always' has been added, if you want to decide later.
· A new display called 'Done', above the
folder list, keeps you informed how much folders you already
copied/moved
if you do the job in parts..
· The target folders can be opened in Windows Explorer one by one for better control.
To achieve this, double click on a line or use CTRL+ENTER.
· Possible numbers that AudioZip can
have added to duplicate folders (the red ones) in the folder list of
the main window
will be automatically erased from the target folder name.

Function JoinCDs
This special function is activated via
the
Switch 1.2.8 in the
2nd
Quadrant of the main window.
In the case that you have a multiple CD in different individual folders
in the folder list in the 2nd quadrant of the main window
and you prefer to have all the tracks of
this multi-CD in one folder, AudioZip offers you a quick solution for
your intention by dragging the mouse
from e.g. CD2 to CD1, then if more than 2, CD3 to CD1 and so on...
Track numbering in the TAGs will be
continuous from track 1 of CD1 to the last track of the last CD, the CD
number
also is written accordingly to the TAG..
Any set
Formats in TAGs are taken into account.
The file numbering and naming follows the same system with the set
format for file naming 1.3.2 in the
3rd Quadrant
of the main window.
If a file with the same name exists in
CD1, you will be asked to overwrite it. If you don't want to, a number
will be attached.
Sometimes e.g. for same picture files in
all CD folders you might want to overwrite.
The order of each operation is important
for correct functioning. The drop target must always be CD1, the
Drag order always upwards from CD2 to
CDx.
After each process, the switch 1.2.8
must be activated again, you must first confirm each action after
releasing the mouse button.
This action cannot be undone!
Have fun!

32. Can I translate AudioZip to my language?
The answer is yes, but you have to keep some things in mind and know that this means
quite a big effort.
Since version 1.1 AudioZip
detects new language files automatically, which allows me to expand
the interest in AudioZip to
other countries simply by offering future new languages for download
and as a side effect allows others to make their own translations.
You can, of course, ask for new translations on my
contact page, but my language capabilities
are limited. I can't verify a translation if I don't know the language...
Automatic translators are
useless for more than having a basic structure, then you have to check
line by line
yourself. Anyone who has
tried a slightly more specific online translation knows what I'm
talking about.
·
What to keep in mind:
· The encoding is UTF-8.
· The number of
lines must be the same as that in the supplied translations.
AudioZip v 1.1 controls lines when loading any language file. If the
number of lines is not as expected
an
information message is launched and the default English language is
loaded.
At
the start of the program, the message is only displayed if something
goes wrong with the main file (eng.lan, ita.lan etc.)
so
as not to bother too much, however when changing the language in the
configuration it also warns of
inconsistencies in other files.
· Blank spaces
can be at the beginning and/or at the end of each line and must be
respected (also their quantity).
· Each line can
contain 1 single word, 1 whole sentence or parts of a sentence.
· Each term must fit in the reserved space within the interface.
If
something is too long in your language, try to express it in a shorter
way.
If
this is not possible, you have to use points to shorten certain words.
·
What files are there to translate and how AudioZip finds them:
As an example here the files for English
·
Essentials
eng.lan
* Main translation of the program
eng.ico
* The country flag (.ico,256x256 pix), if it does not exist Audiozip
shows 'No flag' on gray background
knownframedeseng.lan
* Descriptions of all TAG frames
langnamesISO639-2eng.lan
* To translate language names
·
Others
langnamesRFC1766eng.lan
* Language names for WMA TAGs only
deliveredaseng.lan
* Dropdown list for COMR frame in ID3
Parentaleng.lan
* Dropdown list for parental rating frames
STIKeng.lan
* Dropdown list for STIK frame in MP4 TAGs
SYLTcontenteng.lan
* Dropdown list
for SYLT and WM/LYRICS_SYNCHRONISED frames
· Leave the other files with the .lan extension as they are.
AudioZip
identifies the language based on the 3-letter code ('eng' in the
example, ISO639-2) that is always found
just before the
extension. The name of each file must not be changed except this 3
letter code
that you have to replace it with the code corresponding to your language.
To find the
correct code I recommend AudioZip's list of languages of the ISO639-2 standard
shown
when adding/editing a
TLAN frame in any MP3 file.
·
Resuming
I recommend
first making a copy of the file you want to translate to have the
structure and the correct
quantity of lines.
Then replace the
3-letter code with the one that identifies your language and start
translating respecting
possible blank spaces and controlling the length of each line.
In the end you
must copy this file to the 'lang' folder in the AudioZip directory so
that it can be detected.
AudioZip
automatically adds your language at startup to the list of languages in
the
configuration and a flag
if you have supplied any.
